Personal History

Ralph W. Alexander, Jr., Professor of Physics (Ph.D. Cornell University, 1968), determines the optical properties of materials from microwave to ultraviolet wavelengths, using a variety of spectroscopic techniques. These include Fourier transform spectrometry and surface electromagnetic waves. Optical properties of graphite and other graphitic materials are of current interest, as well as the response of metals at very long wavelengths
